This is a 1963 Mercury Comet 4 door sedan in Sultana White with 2-Tone Turquoise interior (Trim Code 17) and only just over 45,000 miles on the clock. Powered by a 260 cubic inch V8 ‘F-code’ engine and Merc-O-Matic 2-Speed Automatic Transmission.
This car is fitted with factory air conditioning – a $270.90 option when she was new. Interestingly, these base models didn’t even come with carpet, just rubber flooring. Period correct carpets are now fitted to this car. What we find fascinating is that someone ordered this car with air conditioning and paid that much extra for it. For another $87 they could have “upgraded” to a Comet Custom and had such extras as; bright horn ring, rear seat arm rests, cigarette lighter AND carpets! It puts it into perspective how expensive air-con was as an extra.
Mercury produced 24,230 Base Comet 4-door sedans for 1963 with a factory price of $2,499.
We just love that dash, interior and rear end. What do you think?
