Imagine cruising in this beautiful Rangoon Red (paint code J), top trim level, 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible - perfect to pile in a group of friends on cruise night. These cars are arguably one of the best looking Fords of the sixties.
It is a full-size Ford sitting on a 119" wheelbase and is 209.8" long - that's around seventeen and a half feet.
The V8 Galaxie came standard with a 195 horsepower 289 cubic inch engine. It was also available with a 352 cubic inch that provided 250 horsepower and a 390 cubic inch (Z-code) version providing 300 horsepower costing an additional $246 over the standard six cylinder price.
In fact, there were four V8 options available with the most powerful being the mighty 425 horsepower Thunderbird 8V / 427 cubic inch High Performance V8.
The round taillights had become something you expected from Ford having been used for years - except 1960!
There's plenty of comfort in the back too with the 100% Foam-Cushioned "Shell Contoured" rear seats. The convertible top is concealed under the padded boot which has concealed fasteners.
Ford produced 37,311 Galaxie 500 Convertibles for the 1964 model year. They were priced at $2,947 plus any options.
Not only is this car fitted with power steering and Cruise-O-Matic Drive automatic transmission costing $85 and $190 respectively, it also has SelectAire air conditioning that would have cost $364 when the car was ordered new.
This Galaxie 500 Convertible is currently for sale on eBay.
