1966 Cadillac Calais Coupe – video walk around

This is a 1966 Cadillac Calais Hardtop Coupe with black, textured Delrio cloth and vinyl interior. It’s equipped with a 429 cubic inch V8 (as were all models) and a Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

Calais models (series 682) began in 1965 and replaced the 62 series as the entry level model.  They are easily identified by the the Cadillac script on the rear deck lid and Calais script on the rear quarter panels. The main differences between the Calais and the DeVille were the lack of power windows and electric seats on the former as standard options. This car is equipped with power windows which was a $116 option when the car was new. Although power brakes and power steering where standard. The brochure described the Calais as, your easiest step to the “car of cars” – and the unsurpassed enjoyment of Cadillac ownership.

1966 saw a courser grille, divided by a horizontal bar that housed parking lights at each end, for the Calais and there was generally less chrome on all Cadillacs.

Interestingly this was Cadillac’s best ever sales year with 196,675 cars produced.  11,080 Calais Hardtop Coupes were sold.
